MONROE, La.- The Stephen F. Austin softball team (4-10) finished up their tournament schedule at the Battle on the Bayou with a Saturday morning matchup against the Southern Jaguars (4-6).
The Jags got on the board in the first inning and took an early 1-0 lead before doubling their lead in the top of the third, 2-0. In the bottom of the third, Mikaelah Burkland drew a walk before Ellie Vance hit a single to right field that put runners on the corners. Vance stole second which allowed Burkland to score and cut the deficit down to one, 2-1. Southern added to their lead with a run in the top of the fourth, 3-1. SFA began their comeback in the sixth after a leadoff double from Sydney Blakeman that was followed by a single down the right field line that gave Blakeman enough time to score, 3-2. In the seventh, Hope Lusk got on base after being hit by a pitch, then Vance singled down the left field line and advanced to second on the throw. Blakeman drew a walk which loaded the bases for Gabby Coffey, who then reached first on a fielder's choice as the Jags threw out Lusk at home as Southern secured a 3-2 win after a strikeout by Camryn Miley.
