MONROE, La.- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks Softball team (4-6, 0-0) gets set for another tournament as they travel to Louisiana to compete in the Battle on the Bayou hosted by the University of Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks (3-7, 0-0).
Lumberjacks at a Glance:
The Lumberjacks had no shortage of late-game drama last weekend at the Bobcat Tournament as three of the five games SFA played were decided in the sixth inning or later. SFA claimed a thrilling 5-4 extra-innings win over Fordham as Ellie Vance singled home Kaylee Paul to walk off the Rams. The Lumberjacks added another thrilling win as they ended the Bobcat Tournament on an unforgettable note as Camryn Milley hit a triple in the sixth and later came around to score on a Kaylee Paul single to give SFA an 8-7 win over the University of St. Thomas Tommies. The Lumberjacks will now look to carry over their momentum from the Bobcat Tournament into the Battle on the Bayou tournament before returning home for their home opener against UTA next Tuesday.
Warhawks at a Glance:
The ULM Warhawks offense has had plenty of runs scored over their first 10 games as they have scored a combined 50 runs over their first 10 games and have posted scores of 10 runs, 11 runs, and a pair of nine-run games in the early start to the season. The Warhawks now continue a seven-game homestand as they are coming into the Battle on the Bayou off the heels of their home opener where they posted a run-rule 9-1 win over the Jackson State University Tigers in five innings.
Scouting Report-Lumberjacks:
Kaylee Paul, Hope Lusk, and Ellie Vance have formed a terrific trio at the plate for SFA as all three have at least 11 hits to start the season and all three hold a batting average over .350. Gabby Coffey has made herself right at home in the middle of the Lumberjacks lineup as she has mashed three home runs in the first 10 games, and is tied with Mikaelah Burkland for the team lead in RBIs with seven each. Alexis Telford is picking up right where she left off last season as she was named Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday after she pitched a gem of a game against rival Sam Houston State as she allowed no runs, issued no walks, and struck out nine batters on 105 pitches in a 1-0 SFA win over the Bearkats. Reagan Hall locked down her first career save in SFA's 8-7 win over the Tommies as she worked around a leadoff single by inducing back-to-back groundouts and ending the game on a strikeout for the save.
Scouting Report-Warhawks:
Morgan and Meagan Brown have shown some incredible sisterly chemistry to start the season for ULM as they are both hitting over .400 to start the year and have combined for five doubles, a triple, two home runs, and 22 RBIs. However, the Warhawk offense doesn't stop there as Brooklin Lippert, Elle Carter, and Maryssa Zenzen all have at least 10 hits as well for the Warhawks in their first 10 games. Dakota Lake has been a workhorse for the Warhawks in the circle as she has already pitched 24.2 innings and holds a 2-2 record so far in 2025.
Series:
Thursday's tournament opener for SFA will mark the 34th and 35th all-time meetings between these two schools as ULM leads the all-time series 19-14. The Warhawks have won the last two meetings over SFA, including the most recent one last season when they claimed a 10-0 win over SFA in five innings.

MONROE, La.- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks Softball team (4-6, 0-0) squares off with the Eastern Illinois Panthers (3-7, 0-0) on the second day of the Battle on the Bayou Tournament.
Panthers at a Glance:
The Eastern Illinois University Panthers come into the Battle on the Bayou carrying a 3-7 record and will be looking to get back in the win column after suffering a 10-2 loss to Troy their last time out in the final game of Troy Trojan Classic. Prior to their last loss, the Panthers offense exploded for a dominating 10-0 win over Alabama State as they scored four runs in both the second and third innings to cruise their way to a 10-0 run-rule win over Alabama State.
Scouting Report-Panthers:
Kendall Grover has been on a tear to start the season at the plate for the Panthers as she will carry a .438/1.111/.625 slash line into the weekend while adding on three doubles, a home run, and five RBIs. Abbey Crain has formed a dynamic duo with Grover at the plate as she has tallied a .333 batting average and 11 hits to begin the season for the Panthers. McKenzie Oslanzi has been a familiar face in the circle for the Panthers as she has pitched a team-high 35.2 innings and has thrown two complete games so far this season.
Series:
The second day of the Battle on the Bayou kicks off with the third all-time meeting between SFA and Eastern Illinois. The two schools have split the previous two meetings with SFA winning the most recent matchup in 2011 when they claimed a 4-2 win over the Panthers in the finale of the UAB Magic City Classic.

MONROE, La.- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks Softball team (4-6, 0-0) close out play at the Battle on the Bayou with an early Saturday morning matchup against the Southern University Jaguars (3-6, 0-0).
Jaguars at a Glance:
The Southern University Jaguars come into the Battle on the Bayou carrying plenty of momentum as they hold a three-game winning streak scoring a combined 27 runs over their last three games. The Jaguars most recent game against Hampton University was canceled due to weather, however, prior to that game the Jaguars were fresh off a 7-6 win over Fort Valley State in what turned out to be their final game of the HBCU Collegiate Invitational. The Jaguars now set their sights on extending their winning streak and continue their offensive momentum.
Scouting Report-Jaguars:
Katiana Maldonado has been a tough out for opposing pitchers this season as she boasts a .615 batting average with eight hits and a pair of RBIs to begin the year. Alana Mark has been equally tough on opposing pitchers as she owns a .400 batting average and leads the team with four RBIs. Makyia Taylor has brought the pop to the Jaguars lineup with her team-high three doubles. Jordynn Jennings and Miranda Roldan help lead a balanced Jaguars pitching staff as they have thrown a combined 22.2 innings this season.
Series:
Saturday's early morning tournament finale for SFA will mark the fourth all-time meeting between these two programs. SFA has won the first three meetings in the series over Southern University and won their most recent meeting in 2020 when they posted a 7-1 win over the Jaguars.
