‘Jacks set for third all-time title clash with Huskies in SLC Championship.
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin women's soccer competes in the SLC Soccer Championship at 1:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 9. The Lumberjacks will square up in the title match against No. 5 HCU.
SFA returns to the record book by securing back-to-back conference championship berths, a feat last achieved since the 2016-2017 season, when they faced off against HCU in the 2016 season. Looking at the championship series between these two sides, SFA and HCU have met twice, with HCU winning both times.
SFA is headed back to the SLC championship after their 2-0 dominating performance against No. 6 Lamar on Thursday. Alex Bayouth scored the opening goal for SFA in the 65th minute, before a battle ensued for an equalizer for Lamar. As seconds ticked away, Kamrynn Davis put the dagger in the match, marking her first collegiate postseason goal in the 89th minute. Sierra McCluer continues her dominance in the Southland, as the Goalkeeper of the Year, posting her 10th shutout of the season on five saves.
When asked about SFA and their return to the SLC Championship, Head Coach Ashley Whittemore said, "As a first-year head coach, it's incredibly special to help bring this program back to the Southland Conference Championship. SFA has such a proud tradition, and our team has worked tirelessly to honor that, while building our own identity." Whittemore also responded, "This group has shown so much grit, resilience, and pride in representing SFA-and I could not be more proud of them."
Whittemore also delivered a message for the Lumberjack faithful, stating, "Our team has lived by #BeTheThermostat all season-setting the tone in everything we do. Now, we need the Lumberjack faithful to do the same in Beaumont on Sunday. Come help us set the atmosphere, and show what it means to be SFA."
The last meeting between these two was on October 19, 2025. SFA took a 2-0 victory over the Huskies in Nacogdoches, to bring the all-time series record to 12-4-0 in favor of the 'Jacks. Now with both teams set with one goal in mind, these two sides not only battle for a shot at glory, but a qualifying spot in the 2025 NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament.
