CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Stephen F. Austin women's soccer took a dominating 3-1 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sunday, October 12.
SFA struck early, when in just the first 43 seconds of the match, Brielle Buchanan netted her fourth goal of the season, with the assist coming from Alexis Miller, her fifth of the season. Not long after for the 'Jacks, Taylor Dodson collected her fourth goal of the season, with her chance coming off a pass from Logan Heausler to clean up for the 'Jacks inside the box, giving SFA a 2-0 advantage. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi found their first goal of the match in the 20th minute, as MyJoi Anderson scored her third of the season, and Dakota Merino picked up her second assist of the season on the Islanders' lone goal. Taylor Dodson captured her second goal of the match in the 55th minute of the second half, as she was set up perfectly to take advantage of a rebound off a shot from Heausler, and picked up her second assist of the match.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi was held to six shots on goal, with Anderson's first-half efforts landing the Islanders their only goal. Madison Page led the offense in shots, with four on the afternoon, as only three other Islanders had a multi-shot performance. Jessie Spurrell allowed three goals with seven saves in 90 minutes.
SFA dominated on the pitch with 22 total shots for the 'Jacks. Logan Heausler accounted for almost half of the team's total shots, taking nine shots and picking up two assists in the match for SFA. Taylor Dodson went two-for-two on shots, with Dodson collecting two goals in the first half as she now leads SFA in goals with five on the year. Brielle Buchanan added a goal to her stat line, picking up her fourth of the season, with three shots and two on goal. Erin Morgan, Sydney Williams, Sawyer Kohutek, and Avery Brandt held down the back line, limiting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to 14 shots, and averaging 76 minutes on the pitch. Sierra McCluer faced five shots on the afternoon, only allowing one goal as she collected the 3-1 victory.
The Lumberjacks are now 7-2-2 against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, and claimed their third win in all-time history when playing in Corpus Christi.
