
Lumberjacks Fall to Demons

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (8-12, 1-8) fell at home to the visiting Northwestern State University Demons (9-10, 6-3) 57-54 in overtime.
Following a tightly contested defensive affair in the first three minutes, Nana Antwi-Boasiako got the scoring for both sides started with a layup to put SFA ahead 2-0. Following a pair of Demons baskets, Nana Antwi-Boasiako got back in the scoring column with a hook shot to put SFA ahead 4-3, five minutes into the first half.
The Lumberjacks would start to heat up from beyond the arc at the midway point of the first half as Keith Lamar would knock down two triples for SFA, which combined with a Chrishawn Christmas three-pointer, kept SFA narrowly in the lead 14-13 with five minutes left in the opening half.
The 'Jacks kept their hot shooting from downtown going to end the first half as Matt Hayman would get on the scoring sheet with a pair of triples over the final five minutes to keep the three-point onslaught going for SFA, however, the Demons held a slim 22-20 lead at the half.
The Lumberjacks came roaring out of the half as Nana Antwi-Boasiako got the scoring started with a dunk on SFA's opening possession of the second half to knot the score at 22 points apiece. Antwi-Boasiako sent a bolt of energy into the Lumberjacks as the opening five minutes of the second half saw the 'Jacks explode for a 13-1 scoring run thanks to points from Matt Hayman, Chrishawn Christmas, Keon Thompson, and Nana Antwi-Boasiako to launch SFA in the lead 35-23.
Myles Jenkins would continue the trend of hot Lumberjacks from beyond the arc as he would knock down a pair of triples himself in a run that saw him rattle off eight straight points for the 'Jacks to keep SFA in the lead 44-39 with eight minutes remaining. The Demons would work their way back and take a 49-46 lead over SFA with two minutes remaining. Matt Hayman would refuse to let SFA go down quietly as he would knock down his fourth triple of the night to knot the score at 49 points apiece and help force overtime at the Sawmill.
Juhlawnei Stone would get the extra period scoring started for SFA with a layup to tie the score at 51 points apiece. The Demons took a 55-51 lead. Chrishawn Christmas hit from three-point land going with a pullup triple to trim the Demons lead down to one at 55-54. The Demons would add a pair of free-throws and SFA was unable to find the equalizing points, eventually falling 57-54 in an overtime heartbreaker to the Demons.

The Lumberjacks will continue their three-game homestand on Monday night at the Sawmill as they welcome the visiting East Texas A&M Lions to Nacogdoches. Tip-off for Monday's matchup against the Lions is set for 7:30 p.m. CST at the Sawmill.
