SFA never trailed and led by as many as 58 points
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin improved to 2–0 with a 57-point win over Texas Lutheran on Friday night inside William R. Johnson Coliseum. The Jacks turned a 17–14 lead into a 46–17 halftime advantage, then scored the first eight points of the second half to complete a 22–0 run. SFA never trailed and led by as many as 58 to win a tenth-consecutive non-conference home game.Â
Â
The Jacks committed just four turnovers on the night and were perfect in the second half protecting the basketball, while continuing to clamp down defensively (held TLU to 17.2% shooting in second half) and control the action on the glass (+10 in second-chance points).Â
Â
SFA shook away a slow start, 4-for-14 shooting and a 9-7 lead through the 14:43 media, with three-straight makes, all assisted, to stretch the lead to 16–9. That surge was powered by six more shots from the floor behind four offensive boards and a 4-1 edge in turnovers forced.
Â
With the first half clock dipping below eight minutes, Erik Makke hit a three off a Christian Green assist to cap a 9–0 SFA run and give the Jacks their largest lead of the night at 26-14. Texas Lutheran went 3:11 without scoring, missing five straight shots and committing three turnovers in that stretch as SFA held the Bulldogs to 5-for-19 shooting (26.3%) through the game's first 13 minutes.Â
Â
The Jacks added seven more points as part of a 16-0 advantage to grab a 37-17 lead with less than four minutes to play before the intermission.Â
Â
In the opening twenty minutes, SFA forced 15 turnovers, converted them into 15 points and blocked five shots. Texas Lutheran shot 6-for-26 (23.1%) and missed its final six shots of the half. SFA took 41 field-goal attempts to Texas Lutheran's 26, helped by a 15–4 turnover advantage and seven offensive rebounds. The Jacks led 23–19 on the glass and outscored Texas Lutheran 29-3 over the half's final 10:15 of play.Â
