SFA sets new single-game program and SLC record for three-pointers made (26), reaches 120 points for first time in nearly three decades
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – It was all Stephen F. Austin from the jump on Monday night as the Jacks, in year two of the Matt Braeuer era, dropped 120 points for the first time in nearly three decades behind a new single-game program and Southland Conference record 26 made three-pointers to cruise past Lyon College 120-61 inside William R. Johnson Coliseum.Â
Â
The Lumberjacks made five of their first six attempts from deep to take an 18–11 lead. The defense helped stretch the margin from there, holding Lyon without a field goal for nearly eight minutes as SFA built a 34–15 advantage.
Â
The Jacks pushed the lead to 30 on an Erik Makke three with 3:29 left in the first half, then closed on an 8–0 run to take a 62–26 lead into the break. Makke scored 12 first-half points on 4-for-4 shooting from beyond the arc, and MJ Russell hit a three with 40 seconds left to give SFA 15 trifectas before halftime. The Lumberjacks assisted on 16 of their 20 first-half baskets and held Lyon to 25 percent shooting.
Â
After Lyon scored the opening basket of the second half, SFA answered with eight points in 57 seconds. Narit Chotikavanic hit the Jacks' record-breaking 20th and 21st threes to make it 88–38 with 11:04 left, and Kensington Candler put SFA over 100 with a 3-pointer at the 7:15 mark.Â
