
Lumberjacks Fall to Cowboys

LAKE CHARLES, La. The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (8-11, 1-7) fell on the road to the McNeese State Cowboys (14-5, 8-0) by a final score of 79-59.
The Cowboys recorded the first six points of the game, before Nana Antwi-Boasiako got the Lumberjacks on the board with a triple 90 seconds into the game to cut the McNeese lead to 6-3. Antwi-Boasiako would stay hot from beyond the arc as he would nail his second three-point attempt as well to knot the score up at six points apiece three minutes into the first half.
The Lumberjacks would keep the three-pointers rolling in as Dominic Pangonis would knock one down from deep, before Nana Antwi-Boasiako would tally his third triple of the half to cut the McNeese lead down to 18-12 with 12 minutes remaining in the half.
SFA would start to find their stride with five minutes left in the half as a 9-2 scoring run fueled by points from Dominic Pangonis, Keon Thompson, and five points from Matt Hayman including the Lumberjacks fifth three-pointer of the half cut the McNeese lead to 33-23, however, the Cowboys held a 43-26 lead at the half.
Following a pair of McNeese baskets to begin the second half, Keon Thompson and Chrishawn Christmas answered with baskets of their own to start the SFA second half scoring. The Cowboys still led 48-30. With seven minutes gone in the second half, Keenan Emmanuel would rattle off three straight points to help spark a 5-0 SFA scoring run to cut the Cowboys lead to 54-38.
At the midway point of the second half, Chrishawn Christmas would score five consecutive points for SFA to kickstart a 7-2 Lumberjack scoring run and cut the McNeese lead to 61-45 with eight minutes left in the game. Shortly after, Thierno Sylla would record his first points of the game off the bench for the 'Jacks with a three-point play to bring SFA to within 14 at 62-48. The Lumberjacks were unable to find the equalizing points over the final eight minutes and ultimately fell 79-59 on the road to the Cowboys.

The Lumberjacks will return home to the friendly confines of the Sawmill as they get set to open a three-game homestand on Saturday, January 25th when they get set to host rival Northwestern State at the Sawmill in a Purple Out game.
