COMMERCE, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (4-1-2, 1-0-0) hit the road as they continue their conference slate when they begin their weekend with a trip to Commerce for a battle with the A&M University-Commerce Golden Lions (1-6-3, 0-0-1).
Lumberjacks at a Glance:
The Lumberjacks kicked off their 2024 conference slate on the right foot as they defeated SLC Preseason Favorite Lamar University with a 3-0 shutout home win over the Cardinals over parent's weekend. The win over Lamar for the Lumberjacks marked the first conference loss for Lamar since 2022, as the Lumberjacks collected their fourth straight win. Despite having three games cancelled this season, the Lumberjacks have not let that affect their preparation as they have scored 24 goals during their four-game winning streak and even more impressively have been powered by the dynamic goaltending duo of Lydia Sattler and Sierra McCluer who have allowed a sparking zero goals during that same stretch.
Golden Lions at a Glance:
SFA will face another stiff conference test on Friday night as they will square off with the team picked to finish second in the SLC Preseason Poll in the A&M-Commerce Golden Lions. After finishing second in the Southland last season, the Golden Lions were once again picked to finish second this season as they return all 11 starters from last season to this season. Commerce concludes their non-conference slate with a 1-6-2 overall record and opened their conference slate by battling the UTRGV Vaqueros to a 0-0 draw on Sunday to record their third straight season with at least one point in their conference opener.
Series:
Friday night's conference battle will feature the fourth all-time meeting and the first time in over 25 years these two schools have squared off with each other. The Golden Lions hold the all-time series lead 2-1 over SFA as these two schools last met in 1998 with A&M-Commerce claiming a 1-0 win over SFA on the road.
Stephen F. Austin vs Houston Christian University
Date: Saturday, September 29th
Time: 1:00 p.m. CT

HOUSTON, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (4-1-2, 1-0-0) will then stay on the road in their final game of the weekend as they will duel the Houston Christian Huskies (2-5-3, 0-0-1) in a Sunday matinee matchup.
Huskies at a Glance:
The host HCU Huskies carry a 2-5-3 overall record into Sunday afternoon's matchup as they wrapped up non-conference play with a 2-5-2 record, before drawing a 0-0 tie with the A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders in their conference opener on Sunday to secure their first conference point of the season. The match against SFA will be the second game of a short two-game conference homestand for the Huskies as they search for their first home win of the season after being on the road for the last two weeks.
Series:
Sunday afternoon's battle will feature the 15th all-time meeting between these two Southland foes as SFA has holds the all-time record over the Huskies 10-4. The Lumberjacks have won the previous three meetings between the two schools including a 1-0 win on the road over the Huskies in their previous meeting in 2021.
Scouting Report:
Reaganne Crane continues to be the enforcer on offense for SFA as she leads the team in both goals (six) and points (15) as her six goals have her tied for 43rd in the nation in goals this season and she has recorded a goal in three of her last four games. Maddie Bowers has formed a nice scoring duo with Crane this season as Bowers has dished out a team-leading five assists this season and has recorded a point in four consecutive games for the Lumberjacks. Bowers and Cranes' fantastic offensive seasons have earned them well-deserved recognition as both have taken home SLC Offensive Player of the Week awards so far this season. Brielle Buchanan has been just as hot as Crane and Bowers offensively as she has four goals on the season and has tallied a goal in three of her last four games as well.
Hannah Bell has been the MVP of the Commerce offense so far this season as she has netted a team-high four goals this season and leads the squad with eight points on the year. Camila Montero has scored a pair of goals of her own, while Ashley Campuzano leads the team with three assists on the season. Gillian McKenzie has started all 10 games in net for the Golden Lions and has recorded 35 saves and one shutout on the year.
Alexa Huerta has done a little bit of everything for the Huskies this season as she leads the team in goals (two), assists (two), and points (six), while both Emily Jaimes and Karianne Desjardins both have two goals as well for HCU this season. Emmy McKeon has started eight games for HCU this season and has recorded 42 saves and six shutouts and recently won SLC Goalkeeper of the Week honors this week.
