NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Women's Soccer (3-1-2) closes out their three-game homestand with their first conference match of the season as they will play host to the visiting Lamar University Cardinals (2-4-2) in a Sunday evening match.
Lumberjacks at a Glance:
The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks will look to keep the wins rolling in to close out their three-game homestand as SFA will carry a three-game winning streak into Sunday night's match. Not only have the Lumberjacks won three consecutive games, but they have also dominated offensively in all three wins as they have outscored their last three opponents 21-0. In their last match, the Lumberjack offense made sure to show out for their seniors on Senior Day as SFA cruised to a 9-0 win over UAPB to record their second home game this season with at least nine goals.
Golden Lions at a Glance:
The reigning SLC Regular Season Conference Champions Lamar University Cardinals will carry a 2-4-2 overall record into the Chopping Block on Sunday night. The Cardinals have faced no shortage of stiff competition to begin their season as they have played matches against no. 25 ranked Texas A&M, as well as Rice and Denver University. In their most recent match, the Cardinals came away with a 1-1 tie against the University of Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns to close out their mini two-game homestand. The Cardinals are led by Head Coach Nathan Kogut who is in his fourth season with Lamar and is coming off a season that saw Lamar compile an impressive 9-0-1 conference record last season.
Scouting Report:
Reaganne Crane made sure to make her senior day match against UAPB a memorable one that will not soon be forgotten by Crane or by Lumberjack fans. Crane tallied four goals tying Kim Geyer for the most goals in a single game by a Lumberjack in SFA history, while setting the SFA school record for most points in a single game with nine points (four goals, one assist) against the Golden Lions. As a result of this historic performance, Crane was rightfully named the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week, one week after fellow senior teammate Maddie Bowers was given the same prestigious award. However, Crane was far from the only Lumberjack to get on the stat sheet against UAPB as five other goal scorers for SFA in Maddie Bowers, Jayme Bailey, Brielle Buchanan, and Brinlee Weir also netted goals against UAPB in the memorable 9-0 SFA senior day win.
Six different Cardinals have scored a goal this season but they are led by Kaitlyn ZNiemeyer who leads the team with a pair of goals this season. Cena Carlson has spread the wealth around offensively as she has dished out a team leading three assists this season, while Kamryn Harvey leads the team with 15 shots and six shots on goal on the year. Taylor Howard and Maddie Rich have split goaltending duties for Lamar this season as the two have combined for 39 saves so far.
Series:
Sunday evening's matchup will continue this historic rivalry between these two Southland Conference foes. SFA leads the all-time series 15-5 over Lamar and have won the previous three matchups between the two schools, which includes SFA claiming a 1-0 home win over the Cardinals in their last match in October of 2021.
