NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Women's Soccer (2-1-2) returns home carrying plenty of confidence as they enter their Senior Day match against the visiting UAPB Golden Lions (1-4-1) off the heels of a 2-0 win over Oral Roberts their last time out.
Lumberjacks at a Glance:
The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks have strung together a pair of impressive wins and return home looking to extend their winning streak to three games. The 'Jacks hope to replicate some of the success from their home opener as they scored 10 goals in a win over the TAMU-SA Jaguars, and look to carry over their suffocating defensive presence from their 2-0 win over the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles. The Lumberjacks will be honoring 10 seniors in their senior day festivities against UAPB as eight players in Lydia Sattler, Maddie Bowers, Kamryn Jiles, Avery Brandt, Jayme Bailey, Lily Hargrove, Reaganne Crane, and Kristen Fuentes will all be honored for senior day, as well as two of the 'Jacks graduating managers in Joahan Madrigal and Daniel Vargas.
Golden Lions at a Glance:
The UAPB Golden Lions travel to Nacogdoches to open up a three-game road trip in their non-conference finale this season. The Golden Lions will be looking to snap a two-game losing skid as in their last match they fell 7-0 to Little Rock. UAPB has had no shortage of traveling to begin the season as they have played five road games to just one home game this season. The Golden Lions are led by Head Coach Jayme Selph who is in her first season leading the Golden Lions Soccer program.
Scouting Report:
The Lumberjack offense continues to provide solid consistency offensively this season as in all five games this season, SFA has recorded at least 10 shots. Senior Jayme Bailey has returned to her goal scoring ways from last season as she has now recorded back-to-back games with a goal for the 'Jacks and has 13 goals for her career. Meanwhile, another senior forward in Maddie Bowers continues to light up the stat sheet for the Lumberjacks as she is fresh off being named SLC Offensive Player of the Week thanks to a week that saw her record two goals, three assists, and seven points over two games. Lydia Sattler continues to be a solid rock in net for SFA as he has now recorded back-to-back games without allowing a goal and tallied her sixth career shutout in SFA's 2-0 win over Oral Roberts.
The Golden Lions offense has been spread out and unselfish this season as four different players have recorded a goal for them this season. Ashley McGuire leads the charge with her two goals this season, while Alexia Dugan, Emma Peyton, and Denisse Quintanila have all also netted goals for UAPB. Makaila Riedel has started all six games in net for UAPB this season and has recorded 73 saves.
Series:
Sunday afternoon's matchup will feature the third time these two programs will square off with each other on the pitch and the first time in almost 12 years they will see each other. SFA leads the all-time series 2-0 and in their most recent meeting in 2012 claimed a 4-0 home win over UAPB.
