HOUSTON, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (0-0-2, 0-0-0) drew their second straight tie on the road to open the season, this time tying with the host Houston Cougars (0-2-1, 0-0-0) as Thursday night's game ended in a 0-0 tie.
The first half between Houston and SFA saw a tightly contested defensive battle as the SFA defensive was suffocating not allowing much offensive pressure from the Cougars and controlling the pace of play offensively for the majority of the first half. Lydia Sattler recorded two saves in the half for SFA while Olivia Dietrich recorded one save for the Cougars as the two schools headed to halftime in a 0-0 tie. The second half saw SFA continue to keep the offensive pressure on the Cougars as the Lumberjacks totaled eight shots in the second half with four of them being on goal, however, they were unable to get one past Cougars goalie Olivia Dietrich. Lydia Sattler faced her fair share of shots in the second half as well from Houston as she saved three shots on goal in the second half. The final five minutes of the game featured a flurry of scoring chances for both sides but both goalies stood strong in their respective nets. In the end, the Cougars and Lumberjacks remained tied at zero when the final horn blew as both sides played an evenly matched physical game in a rematch from last season.
The Lumberjacks totaled their second straight game with 10 shots as they ramped up the offensive pressure on the Cougars in the second half by recording 8 shots and four shots on goal in the second half. Last year's leading scorer Jayme Bailey was a consistent threat in the Cougars zone tonight as she led the team in shots with three and shots on goal with two. Avery Brandt and Lily Hargrove also recorded shots on goal for the 'Jacks, while Cassidy Hoang and Maddie Bowers combined for three shots against their former team. The dynamic sister duo of Ella and Erin Morgan each played the full 90 minutes for Head Coach Ben Williams. Meanwhile, Lydia Sattler recorded her second consecutive game with four saves as she has now gone over 150 minutes straight without allowing a goal in net for SFA.
The Lumberjacks will stay on the road to conclude their three-game road trip to open the season as they travel to Dallas on Sunday in a rematch from last season with the SMU Mustangs. Kick-off for Sunday's game is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. CST. You can watch all the action on ACCNX, as well as follow along on the SFA Soccer social media accounts for all the game updates.
