Lumberjacks Fall in Rematch With Warhawks

After both teams were held scoreless in the first inning, the Lumberjacks got the scoring started in the top of the second. Peyton Parker led off the inning with a single. Tyree Carr came to the plate next and belted a two-run home run over the left field wall to put the 'Jacks on top early, 2-0. With one out Will Dixon put the ball in play and reached on a throwing error by the pitcher. Zerick Warren then grounded out and advanced Dixon to third. Cole Hill added to the hit parade with a single into left field scoring Dixon to extend the Lumberjacks lead 3-0. Colton Griffin then joined in and added a single to right field scoring Hill and once again tacking on to the lead, 4-0. The Warhawks were able to respond with one run in the bottom of the second inning but after two complete innings the Lumberjacks led 4-1.
Peyton Parker got the top of the third inning started collecting his second hit of the game. Tyree Carr and Nolan Brown would then walk to load the bases with no outs in the inning. Will Dixon grounded into a double play allowing Parker to score from third, 5-1. Zerick Warren then reached on a throwing error by the third baseman pushing the 'Jacks lead to five runs, 6-1. The Warhawks would not go away quietly as they scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning to make it a two-run game, 6-4.
ULM went on to score one run in the bottom of the fourth, one run in the bottom of the fifth, and five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to lead 11-4. SFA could not push any more runs across after the third inning and ULM won the game.
Aiden Haynes (1-0) took the win on the mound for the Warhawks and Will Larson (0-4) took the loss for the Lumberjacks.
SFA will be back in action this weekend May 10th-12th as the travel to Sacramento, California for their final Western Athletic Conference (WAC) series of the season.
