
Lumberjacks Fall to Hornets in Game One

SACRAMENTO, California- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks fell in the first of a three-game series to the Sacramento State Hornets by a final score of 12-1.
The Hornets got the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning plating three runs to take an early lead, 3-0. Sacramento State then extended their lead in the bottom of the second inning scoring two runs, 5-0.
After a scoreless third inning for both teams SFA got on the board in the top of the fourth. With one out Peyton Parker stepped to the plate and doubled to left field then quickly advanced to third on a wild pitch. Brock Knoerr then grounded out to the second baseman allowing Parker to score from third and the Lumberjacks cut into the Hornets lead, 5-1.
Sacramento State would respond in the bottom of the fourth inning scoring three runs to take a commanding 8-1 lead. The Hornets then scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and led 12-1. The Lumberjacks were unable to score again, and the Hornets won in seven innings.
Evan Gibbons (5-4) took the win on the mound for the Hornets and Jack James (0-5) took the loss for the Lumberjacks.
