Lumberjacks Head to Sacramento State for Final Conference Series

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks are traveling to Sacramento, California for the final three-game Western Athletic Conference (WAC) series of the season against the Sacramento State Hornets.
The Series
The Lumberjacks currently hold a 2-1 advantage in the all-time series over the Hornets. The series dates to March 30th, 2023, with the Lumberjacks earning a 7-1 win in Nacogdoches, Texas. This will be the second time the teams have met for a Western Athletic Conference series since SFA joined the WAC in 2021.
A Look at SFA
The Lumberjacks are currently 9-40 overall and 5-22 in WAC play. SFA dropped their midweek game to ULM on Wednesday night by a final score of 11-6. Last weekend the Lumberjacks earned their first conference series win after taking two of three games from Utah Tech.
Brock Knoerr is the clubhouse leader with his .303 batting average. Cole Hill leads the Lumberjacks with 56 hits, 32 runs scored, and 82 total bases. Tyree Carr has come on recently for the Lumberjacks with two home runs in the last three games and collected two hits including a home run against ULM. Tom Biggs leads the team in RBIs with 33. Reid Boyett leads the pitching staff with 68.2 innings pitched, and 60 strikeouts through 16 appearances this season.

The Hornets dropped their midweek game to Nevada on Tuesday night by a final score of 14-8 Sacramento State earned a WAC series win last weekend as they took two of three games from UT-Arlington. The Hornets are 2-3 in their last five games.
Gunner Gouldsmith leads the Hornets offense with his .312 batting average and 67 hits. JP Smith holds the team lead with 19 home runs and 40 RBIs. Evan Gibbons is the clubhouse leader for the pitching staff with 66.2 innings pitched. Tyler Stewart leads with the staff with 49 strikeouts.
