
Lumberjacks Win Nailbiter Over Trailblazers on Senior Day

NACOGDOCHES, Texas. - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks Baseball Team (9-39, 5-22) won their final home game of the season 2-1 over the visiting Utah Tech Trailblazers (11-36, 9-18).
Following a scoreless first two innings by both teams, the Lumberjacks would break the ice in the bottom of the third, as Cole Hill would rope a ball into left field and come around to score on a Colton Griffin single one batter later to put SFA on top 1-0 after three full innings. The 'Jacks would add on another run in the bottom of the fourth following a Brock Knoerr leadoff single, Nolan Brown would smoke a ball into the left center field gap to score Knoerr from first and extend the SFA lead to 2-0 after four complete innings.
Both teams would remain scoreless the next three innings before the Trailblazers would respond in the top of the eighth with an RBI single to cut the SFA lead in half at 2-1 after eight full innings. However, the Lumberjacks bullpen would keep the Trailblazers off the scoreboard the rest of the game to help secure the 2-1 win for SFA on senior day. The win also secured the Lumberjacks their first WAC series win of the season.
Carston Herman (2-5) took the loss for the Trailblazers while Skyler Jaco (2-4) picked up his second win of the season and Caleb Rutledge locked down his first save of the season tossing two scoreless innings. Cal Martin (2-3, BB) both recorded a pair of hits today for SFA, Colton Griffin (1-4, RBI, SB) drove in one of the runs for the Lumberjacks, while Nolan Brown (1-3, 2B, RBI) drove in the winning run for the Lumberjacks.
With their regular season home finale today, the Lumberjacks honored their 18 graduating seniors. Tom Biggs, Nolan Brown, Tyree Carr, Cal Martin, Julian Thompson, Skyler Jaco, Dylan Savino, Peyton Parker, Conner Woods, Cody Fleischer, Alex Gomez, Cole Hill, Cody Smith, Caleb Cude, Crew Wilson, Carter Hines, Cade Stapleton, and Hunter Prescher were all honored pre-game and post-game for their final home game in a Lumberjack uniform as well as for the roles each have played in the success of the Lumberjack Baseball program over their respective careers at SFA.
The Lumberjacks will be back in action on Wednesday, May 8th when they travel to Monroe, Louisiana for a midweek matchup against the ULM Warhawks.
