NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin track and field team will host their first meet of the season. This week the Carl Kight invitational & Multi will get underway. The meet will be three days (Thursday-Saturday) and will feature a Senior Day recognition on Saturday, April 13th.
Head Coach Robert Hansen is excited to welcome a vast field of competition to Homer Bryce Stadium. "As a program, we're thrilled about the latest addition of the Carl Kight Invitational & Multis. This is the largest version of this meet that we have ever hosted, with just shy of 1000 athletes registered to participate," Hansen said.
There will be a plethora of hot events to keep an eye on, through the three-day meet. Nathan Kapel and Gideon Mengich will represent SFA's men as their distance runners. Kapel is competing in the 1500m and is pacing Gideon Mengich in the 5000m. Cole Szegda will compete in the men's javelin. Jarvis Anderson is competing in multiple events as he runs in the 400m hurdles and represents SFA in the jumping events.
Saturday will feature a Senior Day recognition for this year's track and field seniors. Senior Day is set to get started at 4:30 p.m. "Saturday is senior day for our graduating men and women, and we're so proud that we have an opportunity to honor them and everything they have done for our program," said Coach Hansen.
Day one (Thursday) is set to get started with the 100m decathlon at 1:00 p.m. Day two will get kicked off at 9:00 a.m. for the decathlon's 110m hurdles. The final day is set to get started at 8:30 a.m. with the women's hammer.
"The multi athletes have been aiming at this meet all season, so we'll be loud and proud as those folks get an opportunity to compete throughout the day on Thursday and Friday. They have the ability to set the tone for our group," said Coach Robert Hansen.
