
Lumberjacks Fall to Texans in Series Opener

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks fell to the Tarleton State Texans in the first game of a three-game series.
The Texans got the scoring started in the first inning with a two-run home run to right field to take the lead 2-0. Tarleton then extended their lead in the top of the third inning scoring two runs, 4-0. In the top of the fifth inning the Texans tacked on one more run, 5-0.
Cole Hill led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a double to left center field and Brock Knoerr followed suit with an infield single to advance Hill to third base. Peyton Parker then hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Hill from third and cut into the Texans lead, 5-1. In the bottom of the sixth inning the Lumberjacks cut into the Texans lead again after Colton Griffin hit his fourth home run of the year over the left field wall scoring two runs, 5-3
Both teams were held scoreless in the seventh and eighth inning, but the Texans were able to score three runs in the top of the ninth inning from a three-run home run. The Lumberjacks were held scoreless in the bottom of the ninth inning and Tarleton won by a final score of 8-3.
Piercen McElyea (2-0) took the win on the mound for the Texans and Reid Boyett (0-6) took the loss the Lumberjacks.
The Lumberjacks will be back in action tomorrow, March 29th for the second game of the series. First pitch is set for 2:00 pm CST. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+. You can also keep up with all the action on social media or with live stats on the SFA Athletics website.
