Lumberjacks Gear Up for Home Series Against Texans

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks return home this weekend after an eight-game road trip to play the Tarleton Texas in a weekend three-game WAC Conference series.
The Series
The Lumberjacks currently hold a 6-3 lead over the Texans in the all-time series history. All games between the two teams have come since SFA joined the WAC and since Tarleton became a Division I institution. The teams last met on April 8th, 2023, in Stephenville, Texas which saw an 11-7 Lumberjack win. SFA swept Tarleton in their last conference series and currently hold a 3-0 record at Pilgrim's Park.
A Look at SFA
The Lumberjacks come into the weekend with a 3-23 overall record and are 0-9 in WAC conference play. SFA is looking to win the series from Tarleton this weekend and get their season back on track. The Lumberjacks recently visited Lubbock, Texas to play Texas Tech in a midweek game. Despite losing to the Red Raiders the 'Jacks offense collected five doubles and one home run in the game to keep it close until the eighth inning.
The Lumberjacks offense is currently led by Brock Knoerr and Nolan Brown. Knoerr, the sophomore from Rowlett, Texas, currently leads the team with his .340 batting average. Brown a senior from Waverly, Nebraska leads the team in home runs (7), total bases (55), slugging percentage (.688), and OPS (1.070). The 'Jacks pitching staff is led by Reid Boyett's 30 punchouts in 39 innings pitched and has one complete game.
Gameday Events
The baseball team will be hosting an Easter egg hunt after Saturday's game. All kids 17 and under will be eligible to participate.

The Texans come into the weekend with a 13-12 overall record and are 3-6 in WAC conference play. Tarleton has lost three of their last five games but picked up a win against Incarnate Word in a midweek game by a final score of 8-4.
Kooper Shook currently leads the Texans offense with his .323 batting average. Brandon Howell is the team leader in home runs with four. Braydon Risley leads the pitching staff with his 5.81 qualifying ERA and is tied for the team lead in strikeout with 22.

The series will start on Thursday, March 28th in a 6:30 p.m. game. Friday's game will begin at 2:00 p.m. and first pitch on Saturday is set for 12 noon. The games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
