Lumberjacks Fall to Mavericks

Arlington, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks fell to the UT-Arlington Mavericks in the first game of the three game conference series.
UTA got the scoring started in the first inning plating one run and added another in the second inning to lead 2-0 after two complete. The Lumberjacks responded in the top of the third inning with one run after a Cole Hill single drove in Dylan Bourgeios to put the 'Jacks on the board. After three complete innings UTA led 2-1.
The Mavericks responded in the bottom of the fourth inning to extend their lead 3-1 after four innings. Tom Biggs led off the top of the fifth inning with a single and with two outs Colton Griffin singled to center field to advance Biggs to third base. Colton Griffin quickly collected his 13th stolen base of the year and Cole Hill walked to load the bases. Peyton Parker came to the plate and singled through the left side to drive in two runs tying the game at 3-3. The Mavericks were able to get out of the inning then quickly responded with a five-run bottom of the fifth inning to retake the lead 8-3 after five complete innings.
After holding SFA scoreless in the top of the sixth inning UTA scored eight runs in the home half of the inning to lead 16-3 after six complete. SFA was unable to score in the top of the seventh and UTA won by a final score of 16-3 in seven innings.
Zach Norris (4-1) took the win on the mound for UTA and Reid Boyett (0-5) took the loss for SFA.
The Lumberjacks will be back in action tomorrow, March 23rd in the second game of the three game series against the Mavericks. First pitch for tomorrow's game is set for 2 P.M. CST.
