Lumberjacks Travel to Face Utah Valley Wolverines

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks travel to Orem, Utah to face the Utah Valley Wolverines in their first road conference series of the season.
The Matchup
This weekend will be the second time that SFA and Utah Valley have met for a three-game series. The Wolverines currently hold a 2-1 lead over the Lumberjacks in the all-time series history.
A Look at SFA
The Lumberjacks have continued to struggle in their past four games. SFA opened conference play against the preseason favorite to win the WAC in Grand Canyon. The Lopes took all three games of the series against the 'Jacks improving to 9-7 overall and 3-0 in WAC play. In a midweek matchup SFA traveled to Waco, Texas to play the Baylor Bears. After the Lumberjacks scored four runs in the top of the second inning the Bears were able to push across 17 unanswered runs to take home their fifth win of the year. The Lumberjacks are looking to take the series on the road this weekend and get back in the win column for the first time since beating Central Michigan on February 18th.
Nolan Brown leads the Lumberjacks offense with his .327 batting average and six home runs. Reid Boyett currently leads the team with his 4.67 ERA and 27 innings pitched. Elian Balmaceda is the team leader in strikeouts with 21.
A Look at Utah Valley
The Wolverines are currently 4-12 overall and 1-2 in WAC Conference play and have lost four of their last five games. This will be Utah Valley's first home conference series. The Wolverines opened WAC conference play on the road at Sacramento State.
Calyn Halvorson leads the Utah Valley offense with his .389 batting average and 12 RBI's. Daniel Dickson leads the team in home runs with six. Ethan Fowlks leads the pitching staff with his 4.91 ERA and 22 strikeouts.
