CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Softball Team (1-4, 0-0) are coming off their first win of the season, at home. The team is looking to continue this record against the Texas A&M- Corpus Christi Islanders (3-2, 0-0) this upcoming weekend.
Lumberjacks at a Glance:
The SFA Softball team travels to Corpus Christi this weekend after their first win of the season in a doubleheader against Northwestern State University. In the first game, the 'Jacks were able to put up a good fight and come out on top winning 4-3, with Amiah Galcatcher hitting a walk-off single, despite being down 2-1 in the fourth inning. The 'Jacks were able to acquire one run a piece in the sixth and eighth innings to create a tie game of 3-3 going into the ninth. The team was able to come out on top, totaling 4-3, winning their last run in the ninth inning. In the second game of the night's doubleheader, the Lumberjacks suffered a 1-0 loss to the Lady Demons, winning their run in the fourth inning.
Junior Alexis Telford has had quite a season for the Lumberjacks so far, with a total of 12 strikeouts in just 17.2 innings. Brittany Coe, Lexi Benson, and Madison Nguyen are performing well and each played an integral part in helping the 'Jacks win their first game of the season. Coe is currently sitting with an average of .286 with two doubles in five games. She has a total of four hits. She has a slugging percentage of .429 and an on-base percentage of .375. Benson is sitting with the same average of .286 with four hits, one double, and one triple in five games. Her slugging percentage is a fantastic .500 right now. Nguyen holds the same average as Coe and Benson of .286 right now with four hits in five games. She helped tie the first game against Northwestern in the eighth inning, putting her fellow 'Jacks in an opportune position to secure their first home victory on Tuesday. These 'Jacks are a must-watch going into this weekend's games against the Islanders.

The Corpus Christi Islanders end their long on-the-road schedule to play their first home games this weekend. The Islanders come into this weekend after multiple matches in the River City Classic where they finished 3-1 with wins against Arlington Baptist, Alcorn State, and Alabama A&M. The Islanders experienced a loss of 8-9 against Jackson State, and missed a canceled game against Grambling in this tournament. To add to their long travel schedule, the Islanders played an away game against Louisiana Tech resulting in a loss of 1-4, making their season record 3-2 coming into this weekend. This is the Islander's first opportunity this season to win a game at home.
Senior Primrose Aholelei is a force to be reckoned with this season with a total of 32 strikeouts in 18 innings. She is currently sitting seventh on the program's all-time strikeout list. Batters to be on the lookout for this weekend include Isabella Hune, Alina Jasso, and Paolina Baez. Hune currently has an average of .421, with eight hits and two doubles in five games. Her slugging percentage and on-base percentage are an impressive .526 and .450 respectively. In five games, Jasso has developed an average of .375, with six hits and three doubles. Her slugging percentage is a nice .563 and her on-base percentage is .500. Baez is sitting with an average of .375 with 6 hits, and one double in five games. In these games, she has set a slugging percentage of .438 and an on-base percentage of .500.

These two programs have not met in the competition since 2021 and are looking to continue their rivalry this weekend, with SFA holding a 31-21 series lead over TAMU-CC.
