LAKE CHARLES, La.- The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks Volleyball Team (21-7, 13-2) closes out their 2024 regular season schedule on the road as they travel to Louisiana for a Saturday afternoon matchup with the McNeese State Cowgirls (10-17, 6-9).
Ladyjacks at a Glance:
The Ladyjacks will look to continue their strong end of season run as they have won their last three matchups dropping only one set during the win streak and recording two sweeps, including winning a home-and-home series against Nicholls. In their latest win, the Ladyjacks traveled to Thibodaux and swept the Nicholls Colonels on Thursday night to record their 16th sweep of the season. The Ladyjacks are locked into the number three seed regardless of the result of Saturday's game and will play the no. 6 seed in the Southland Conference Tournament.
Cowgirls at a Glance:
The McNeese State Cowgirls will be looking for a critical win in their bid for a spot in the Southland Conference Tournament on Saturday afternoon. The Cowgirls currently hold a 6-9 conference record this season which has them tied with both Lamar and East Texas A&M for conference record with all three teams competing for the last two tournament spots on Saturday. In their last game, the Cowgirls picked up a critical win to keep their tournament hopes alive as they swept the Lamar Cardinals 3-0 at home on Thursday evening.
Scouting Report:
The freshman continue to produce at a high level for the Ladyjacks as Kennedy Jones and Katherine Holtman put together career performances in the Ladyjacks win over Nicholls. Jones recorded a career-high 17 kills against the Colonels, while Holtman tallied a career-high four service aces in the win. Holtman has become the offensive juggernaut this season for SFA as she leads the team in both kills (255) and points (299). Jayden Flynn continues to dish out assists at will as she leads the team with 592 assists, as well as 40 service aces. Camryn Hill continues to be a defensive stalwart for SFA with her 309 digs, while Kyanna Creecy is an imposing figure to opposing offenses as she leads the team with a solid 111 blocks on the year.
McKenzie Moore has been the enforcer on offense for the Cowgirls as she easily leads the team in both kills (423) and points (470). Megan Grose has formed a dynamic offensive duo with Moore with her 487 assists this season. Bailey Tillman leads the defensive effort for McNeese with her 467 digs, while Naterah Moore leads the team in both solo blocks (12) and total blocks (76).
Series:
Saturday's regular season concluding game will feature the 57th all-time meeting in this historic Southland rivalry. SFA leads the all-time series 45-11 and have won the previous 14 meetings between the two schools including when they met just over a week ago in Nacogdoches where SFA claimed a 3-0 win over the Cowgirls in the Pressure Cooker.
