
Ladyjacks Earn 16th Sweep of the Season as Kennedy Jones Sets Career High in Kills

THIBODAUX, La.- The Stephen F. Austin volleyball team (21-7, 13-2 SLC) traveled to Louisiana for their second consecutive match against the Nicholls Colonels (7-19, 2-13 SLC).
SFA jumped out to a 4-0 lead that included an ace from Kennedy Jones and a kill from Kyanna Creecy. The Ladyjacks continued to slowly grow their lead until the offense exploded for a five-point run which included back-to-back kills from Katherine Holtman and back-to-back aces from Caroline Kahle, 12-4. Nicholls went on a 4-0 run to cut the lead in half, 12-8. Both teams traded blows until Nicholls went on a mini run to pull within one point, 17-16. The Colonels took their first lead of the set at the end of a three-point spurt, 19-18. With their backs against the wall, the 'Jacks rattled off four-points in a row to secure a 26-24 first set victory.
The second set was tightly contested with neither team holding more than a two-point lead until SFA went on a five-point spurt which was capped off by an ace from Holtman, 11-7. Nicholls went on a 6-1 run to retake the lead, 14-13. Then SFA went on another five-point run which included three kills from Holtman, one from Jones and an ace from Cambry Saul, 19-17. The Ladyjacks finished the second set on a 5-1 spurt that was capped off by a kill from Molly Cravens to secure a 25-20 second set victory.
SFA turned on the jets once again as they started off with a 4-1 run to begin the third set. Nicholls tied the set up at four then SFA went on a 5-2 spurt to take a slim 9-6 lead. After kills from Holtman, Cravens, and Jones the 'Jacks extended their lead to 13-7 before going on another four-point spurt to take a commanding 17-8 lead. It was too little too late for the Nicholls Colonels as the Ladyjacks finished the match off on a 5-1 run with a 25-15 third set victory.
