
Ladyjacks Look to Run Win Streak to Eight Against Cardinals

BEAUMONT, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks Volleyball Team (12-5, 4-0) open up a short two-game road trip as they will first travel to Beaumont on Tuesday evening for an early week matchup with the host Lamar Cardinals (10-6, 2-2) as they look to win their eighth consecutive game.
Ladyjacks at a Glance:
The Ladyjacks enter Tuesday night on a roll as they have strung together seven consecutive wins including four straight wins to begin conference play. Even more impressively for SFA is that of their four consecutive conference wins, SFA has recorded a sweep in three of the four games and are coming off another dominating home sweep as they dismantled A&M-Commerce last Saturday to record their 34th consecutive home victory. The sweep marked the Ladyjacks ninth sweep of the season as they improved their home record to 6-0 on the year.
Cardinals at a Glance:
The Lamar University Cardinals will return home looking to get back in the win column as they are coming off a 3-0 defeat at the hands of the A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders their last time out on Saturday. The Cardinals have not had the benefit of playing at home much this season as they have played at home just twice this season but hold a perfect 2-0 home record this season.
Scouting Report:
The Ladyjacks feature a unique blend of both young and veteran experience on the team that have all pitched in on both ends of the court for SFA this season. Izabella Ortiz continues her superb junior season as she paces the 'Jacks with 147 kills and 190.5 points, while freshman Katherine Holtman continues to form a dynamic duo with Ortiz with her 138 kills and 160 points this year. Junior Jayden Flynn and freshman Sophia Wilson continue to kickstart the SFA offense as the two have combined for over 500 assists this season. Sophomore Kyanna Creecy and Izabella Ortiz continue to stuff hitters at the net this season as they have teamed up for 118 blocks, while junior Camryn Hill and freshman Natalie Guerrero continue to stymie opposing offenses as they have combined for 345 digs defensively.
Maja Malinowska and Lyric Jordan power the Lamar offense as they each have tallied over 190 kills and over 200 points so far this season. Alexa Gonzalez continues to dish out assists for the Cardinals as she easily leads the team with 526 assists this season. Keeley Nellis leads the Lamar defense with her 251 digs, while Ashlyn Gamble has recorded a team-high 46 blocks this year.

Tuesday night's matchup will continue the storied history between these two Southland Conference foes as SFA holds the all-time record 40-21. The Ladyjacks have had the Cardinals number as of late as they have won the last 18 meetings over Lamar and won their latest meeting in 2021 when they swept the Cardinals 3-0 at the Pressure Cooker.
