‘Jacks Ride Past Vaqueros to Record Their Sixth Win of the Season

EDINBURG, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin soccer team (6-2-2, 3-1-0 SLC) traveled down to Edinburg to face off against former WAC foe, UTRGV (5-4-4, 1-1-3 SLC).
Sierra McCluer got her second straight start for the Lumberjacks in goal and recorded her first save in the 13th minute. The 'Jacks struck first as Jayme Bailey was awarded a penalty kick off of a foul by Jordan Matthews in the 17th minute. Bailey would not let the opportunity pass her by as she buried her fifth goal of the season past the UTRGV keeper to put the 'Jacks up 1-0. The scoring did not stop there in the first half as Maddie Bowers scored an incredible turnaround goal in the 27th minute for her fifth goal of the season to extend the SFA lead to 2-0. Later in the first half, Brielle Buchanan took a shot off of a cross that was deflected by the goalie right onto the waiting foot of Kamryn Jiles who got it past the keeper for her fourth goal of the season. At halftime the 'Jacks lead the Vaqueros 3-0.
SFA got the scoring started in the second half in the 57th minute as Jayme Bailey crossed the ball into the box where Lily Hargrove was able to get her head on the ball and redirect it past the UTRGV keeper to extend the SFA lead to 4-0. However, UTRGV would not be held scoreless as they scored in the 84th minute and finished out the game with a score of 4-1.
