NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin soccer team (7-2-2, 4-1-0 SLC) looked to take over first place in the Southland Conference against the Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions (5-6-1, 4-2-0 SLC).
SFA returned to the Chopping Block to begin a three-game home stand and started it off with a heavy hitter with a SLU team that came into this match leading the conference standings. The first goal of the match came in the 36th minute as Kamryn Jiles crossed the ball into Alex Bayouth who one-touched it past the goalie to put the 'Jacks up 1-0. The score would remain at 1-0 at halftime. The 'Jacks continued the season trend of out shooting opponents in the first half and recorded 10 shots to SLU's none.
In the second half the intensity was amplified as both teams poured on the offensive pressure. With a little over 13 minutes left in the match, the 'Jacks offense struck again as Ava Shannon took the ball from midfield and sped her way past the Lion defenders to send a rocket past the goalie to the bottom left corner of the net. The 'Jacks were able to hold off the Lions attack and take first place with a 2-0 win.
Top Players of the Match:
• Alex Bayouth: one goal (first career goal), one shot
• Ava Shannon: one goal (fifth career goal), three shots
