Ladyjacks Dismantle Lions to Extend Home Win Streak to 34

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin volleyball team (12-5, 4-0 SLC) defeated the Texas A&M-Commerce Lions (6-11, 3-2 SLC) in their ninth sweep of the season.
In the first set, both teams traded blows until SFA went on mini three-point run to give the 'Jacks a 10-6 lead. Later in the set, the 'Jacks went on a five-point run to extend their lead to 15-8 which included an ace from Jayden Flynn and a kill from Kyanna Creecy. The SFA offense did not take their foot off the gas as they finished off the set with a 8-1 run as they cruised to a 25-12 first set victory.
SFA jumped out to a 9-4 lead in the second set with two kills from Kennedy Jones and a kill from Camryn Hill and Creecy. Later in the set, TAMUC knotted it up at 14 and each team sided out for a few points. SFA went on a 6-0 run thanks to three kills from Izabella Ortiz and one from Hill to take a commanding 22-16 lead late in the set. Creecy ended the second set with a kill and secured a 25-19 set victory.
With the 'Jacks looking for their ninth victory via sweep and their 34th home victory in a row, they jumped out to an 8-3 lead. Commerce went on a mini-run to cut the SFA lead down to one, 13-12. TAMUC took their first lead of the set off of a four-point run, 20-18. The 'Jacks tied up the set at 22 off a kill from Jones. Both teams were successful in siding out at the end of the set which sent it to extras. With the set tied at 27, the 'Jacks got back-to-backs kills (one from Holtman and one from Ortiz) to put a bow on this match and secure a 29-27 third set victory.

• Katherine Holtman: seven kills, four blocks (tied team lead)

SFA will hit the road for a quick two-game road trip next week with a fast trip to Beaumont to faceoff against Lamar on Tuesday, October 8th at 6:30 p.m. and continues at Incarnate Word of Saturday, October 12th at 12:00 p.m.
