
Ladyjacks Remain Undefeated in Conference Play after Sweep of HCU

HOUSTON, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin volleyball team (11-5, 3-0 SLC) headed down to Houston for a matchup against the Houston Christian Huskies (5-9, 2-1 SLC). Both teams won their first two matches of conference play and were looking to move to 3-0 in SLC play.
In the first set, HCU jumped out to a 6-2 lead. However, SFA chipped away at that lead and eventually tied the set up at 13. Both teams were effective in siding out as neither team held more than a two-point advantage until SFA went on a four-point run which included kills from Kyanna Creecy, Katherine Holtman, and Camyrn Hill. HCU committed four errors down the final stretch of the set which gave SFA a 25-23 first set victory.
The second set was tied up at three early, but the Ladyjacks went on a six-point run which included two kills from Kennedy Jones and one from Holtman, 9-3. Later, SFA went on a five-point run which was capped off by back-to-back kills from Hill as the 'Jacks took a commanding 14-5 lead. The teams traded blows and HCU was able to cut into the SFA lead with a 9-2 run to make it 19-17 late in the second set. The SFA offense was able to keep their foot on the gas as they finished the second set on a 6-2 run. Molly Cravens recorded the kill that secured a 25-19 second set victory for the 'Jacks.
SFA jumped out to a 4-1 lead before both teams started to side out throughout the middle of the set. Down by three, HCU went on a 7-2 run to take a slim 14-12 lead. Later, SFA went on a 6-2 run to retake the lead 22-19. Both teams traded points until the final point of the set when Izabella Ortiz put the game away for the Ladyjacks as they finished the third set with a score of 25-21 and recorded their eighth sweep of the season.
