Lumberjacks at a Glance:
The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks continue to defy expectations for their 2024 season as the Lumberjacks have now strung together four consecutive wins as they now hold a 5-1 conference record this season and continue to pace the Southland Conference standings. Last weekend proved to be yet another successful weekend slate for SFA as they swept the weekend with an impressive 2-0 win over Southeastern Louisiana to claim sole possession of first place of the Southland, before following that up with a dominating 7-0 win over A&M-Corpus. The Lumberjacks eight total wins mark the most for any team in the Southland while remaining the only team in the Southland to remain undefeated on their home turf.
Cardinals at a Glance:
The Incarnate Word Cardinals make the trip to the Pineywoods on the heels of a 2-1 win over Houston Christian their last time out to close out a mini two-game homestand. The Cardinals have won three of their last four games and have proved to be stingy to opposing offenses during that stretch as they have allowed just two goals over their last four games.
Scouting Report:
The Lumberjacks pulled off the rare and impressive feat of sweeping the Southland Conference Player of the Week awards this past week. Freshman forward Alex Bayouth was named the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week following a pair of games that saw her net three goals including the game-winning goals against Southeastern Louisiana and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Junior defender Ella Morgan played all 180 possible minutes in SFA's wins over Southeastern and Corpus while also tallying three shots to claim Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors. Meanwhile, freshman goalie Sierra McCluer took home Southland Conference Goalkeeper of the Week honors as she continues to anchor down the goalkeeper position for SFA as she recorded back-to-back shutouts against Southeastern and Corpus while only allowing one goal this season. Fellow Morgan sister, sophomore defender Erin Morgan capped off the successful week of awards for SFA as she was named to the Top Drawer Soccer Women's Team of the Week on Thursday.
Alex Knutson and Sierra Wannamaker have formed a dynamic offensive duo for the Cardinals as both have scored three goals this season. Sinead Duffy has been a kickstarter for Incarnate Word as she leads the way with three assists while Wannamaker leads the team with 26 shots and 14 shots on goal. Erica Defferding has recorded four shutouts and 62 saves while starting in 13 of the Cardinals 14 games in net this season.
Series:
Friday evening's pink out match for SFA will feature the 11th all-time meeting between these two schools. SFA leads the all-time series over the Cardinals 7-2-1, and have won the last seven meetings between the two schools including their most recent meeting in 2021 where the Lumberjacks claimed a 1-0 home win over the Cardinals.
