FAYETTVILLE, Arkansas- The Stephen F. Austin Track and Field team will have their first indoor track meet of the season this week. SFA will travel The Randal Tyson Track Center to take part in the Arkansas Invitational on January 12th. The doors to the facility will open to competitors and coaches on Friday beginning at 9:00am. Only competing athletes will be permitted inside the competition areas.
The Arkansas Invitational is scheduled to start at 12:45 p.m. with the women's one mile run. The running events will wrap up at 8:45 p.m. with the men's 4x400 meter relay. The field events will begin at 11:00 a.m. with the men's shot put. SFA's participation in the field events is scheduled to end at 7:20 p.m. with the men's high jump.
This will be the first time that Head Coach Robert Hansen and his new staff have seen their athletes compete this season. "Our athletes are excited to get things rolling here in 2024. It's been a long time coming, and this group has done a great job preparing all fall and through winter break. We train for competition and now were knocking on the doorstep, Coach Hansen said, "Competing at Arkansas is a great way to kick things off. We want to be battle tested and there's no better way than making a trip up to Fayetteville to do that".
The Lumberjacks go into the 2024 year with a roster that is filled with plenty of freshmen and newcomers. "Each event group had their fair share of front-end folks, and we have a ton of newcomers chomping to make their Lumberjack debuts" Coach Hansen said.
Stephen F. Austin's next track meet will be on January 18th-19th. SFA travels to Birmingham, Alabama to take part in the Samford Multis. The meet will be hosted by Samford University.
