WAC Player of the Week Izabella Ortiz leads Ladyjacks to Third Consecutive Conference Sweep

OREM, Utah- Stephen F. Austin defeated Utah Valley 3-0 Thursday night as the Ladyjacks earned their third consecutive conference sweep.
SFA jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first set, but UVU fought back with a four-point spurt to take a 4-3 lead. Points were traded between the teams for a majority of the set until the 'Jacks went on a 5-0 run to take a 18-16 lead. SFA then went on a six-point spurt to extend their lead to 24-17. Two points later the Ladyjacks secured a 25-18 first set victory. The Wolverines turned up the heat in the second set as they jumped out to a 10-5 lead. SFA fought their way back and cut it down to a one-point lead after back-to-back kills from Ariana Pagan, 16-15. SFA and UVU fought for every point and kept it close, but SFA scored the final three points to win the second set 25-21. The beginning of the third set was tightly contested as neither team held more than a three-point lead until the 'Jacks went on a five-point spurt to take an 11-7 lead. SFA was able to hold serve on six occasions and won the match on a service ace from Jayden Flynn as they won the final set by a score of 25-20.
SFA led UVU in points (61-41.5), kills (46-31), aces (4-3), blocks (11-7), assists (42-30), digs (37-32), and hitting percentage (.269-.117). Izabella Ortiz led the Ladyjacks attack with 12 kills, hit .611 and led the defense with seven blocks. Camryn Hill and Pagan each recorded nine kills. Maddy Bourque led the team with 24 assists, followed by Jayden Flynn who recorded 17. Alleah Dallas and Tanishua Joseph each recorded four blocks. Hill led the 'Jacks with 12 digs, followed by Haley Hoang with 11.
The Ladyjacks will be back in action Saturday, September 30th in Seattle, Washington as they take on the Seattle U Redhawks at 2:00 p.m. central time.
