NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The SFA Women's Volleyball Team kicks off their WAC slate against the UTRGV Vaqueros
Ladyjacks at a Glance:
Stephen F. Austin enters this matchup against UTRGV looking to bounce back after a hard-fought loss to the No. 18 Baylor Bears. In the game against Baylor, Ielan Bradley led the team in kills with ten and added two blocks. Ariana Pagan finished second on the team in kills with six, while also adding four digs. Jayden Flynn and Maddy Bourque continued to dominate the assist category as they recorded 15 and 14 assists respectively to lead all Ladyjack players.
Earlier this week, Ielan Bradley was named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week. In the four games Bradley played, Bradley had 61 kills, a .424 overall hitting percentage, and 14 total blocks. Haley Hoang also received honors this week as she was named the Western Athletic Conference Libero of the Week. Hoang recorded 74 digs and an impressive 5.29 digs per set in four games, which included a double double against Tulsa.
On the season, Ielan Bradley leads SFA with 169 kills while Jayden Flynn has dished out 299 assists so far. Maddy Bourque and Haley Hoang are tied for the team lead in aces with 13, while Hoang leads the way defensively for SFA along with Izabella Ortiz. Hoang has recorded 231 digs on the season and Ortiz is fifth in the nation in blocks with 67. As a team, the Ladyjacks claimed sole place of first in the nation in Team Total Blocks with 137.5. SFA holds an 11-3 record overall and will look to improve their undefeated record at home as they are currently a perfect 6-0 at the Pressure Cooker and have won 20 home games in a row, which is good for third in the nation.
Vaqueros at a Glance:
The UTRGV Vaqueros come into the Pressure Cooker with a 6-7 overall record on the season. In their most recent game against San Jose State, the Vaqueros lost a nailbiter to the Spartans 3-2. UTRGV racked up 10 aces against the Spartans but were unable to come away with a win in their non-conference finale. On the season, the Vaqueros are led offensively by Luisa Silva Dos Santos who leads UTRGV with 119 kills, and Luanna Emiliano who has dished out 466 assists on the season and has added 18 aces on top of that. Defensively, Kiaraliz Perez leads with 178 digs and Margherita Giani is tops on the team with 36 blocks.
Series: This will be the Ladyjacks ninth meeting with the Vaqueros dating back to 2007. The most recent matchup was in October of 2022 which saw SFA claim a 3-1 win at the Pressure Cooker.
