
Jacks Defeat Demons 41-7 on Record Breaking Night

The historical matchup got started with the Lumberjacks playing near perfect football. Brian Maurer led an opening six play 75-yard drive that resulted in Maurer running it into the endzone from four yards out. With 12:14 left in the first quarter SFA took a 7-0 lead over Northwestern State.
The second drive of the game resulted in Reed Honshtein fumbling the Demon's opening drive away. SFA's Amad Murray found his second defensive touchdown on the season following his scoop and score with 10:19 in the first quarter. The Lumberjacks kept their defensive intensity after Jermaine Brown's strip sack was recovered by Brandon Lane.
SFA kept their near perfect game alive after they were able to score on a two play 14-yard drive that ended in an 8-yard passing touchdown from Brian Maurer to Kylon Harris. This was the first touchdown of Harris's SFA career. With 8:49 left in the first quarter, the Lumberjacks had a comfortable 21-0 lead over the Demons.
Marje Smith made his presence known after he recorded his first collegiate interception with 5:50 left in the first quarter.
The Demons were able to slow SFA down until 10:38 in the second quarter when Jerrell Wimbley scored on a 50-yard "wheel route" that gave the Lumberjacks a commanding 28-0 lead.
Chris Campos gave SFA a 31-0 lead following his 23-yard field goal with 2:33 in the second quarter, tying him for the most made field goals in Lumberjack history.
Charles Demmings recorded his second career interception with 1:41 left in the second quarter. It was the fourth turnover forced by the SFA defense in the first half.
With :23 left in the first half Chris Campos jogged onto the field for his attempt at etching his name in Lumberjack history. Campos nailed the 30-yard field goal becoming Stephen F. Austin's all-time leader in made field goals.
At the end of the half the Lumberjacks led the Demons 34-0. SFA recorded four first half turnovers, averaged 5.0 yards per rush on offense, and four tackles for loss. Jeremiah Walker led the way on defense with six tackles in the first half.
The second half got started in similar fashion as the Lumberjacks forced the Demons to go three and out on their first possession. Northwestern State finally stopped the SFA offense following Donovan Green's interception thrown by Brian Maurer with 9:59 in the third quarter.
SFA's defense continued their dominance over the Demons as they were able to force their fifth turnover of the day after Aaron Austin's strip sack was recovered by Luke Watson with 8:37 in the third quarter.
Anthony Williams' big day became even bigger after Brian Maurer found him on a 53-yard touchdown reception. Williams' second receiving touchdown on the day gave SFA a 41-0 lead with 8:29 left in the third.
The Demons finally found the endzone following Quaterius Hawkins' 20-yard touchdown to Jaren Mitchell with 14:37 left in the fourth quarter.
With 12:40 left, Freshman Jarvis Anderson checked into the game and recorded his first interception as a Lumberjack. Anderson's interception was the sixth turnover forced by SFA on the day.
Stephen F. Austin won the historical matchup 41-7. The Lumberjacks have now recorded 30+ points in all three of their contests this season.
The Lumberjacks return home next week to host Austin Peay State University on Saturday, September 23 at Homer Bryce Stadium at 6:00 p.m. This is the first conference game for the Lumberjacks in the United Athletic Conference (UAC). Tickets can be purchased at SFATICKETS.com.
Highlighting the Lumberjacks:
-The Lumberjack running backs led in both rushing and receiving yards. Jerrell Wimbley recorded his second game in a row with 100+ rushing yards and led both teams in rushing as he rushed 16 times for 115 yards (7.2 ypr). Anthony Williams led both teams in receiving after he finished with 2 catches for 103 yards (51.5 yds/rec) and two touchdowns.
-Chris Campos became Stephen F. Austin's official all-time leader in made field goals (57) after he went 2/3 today.
-Jeremiah Walker led the defense with eight total tackles and an assisted tackle for loss. Brandon Lane finished with six tackles, three assisted tackles for loss, and an assisted sack.
-Amad Murray recorded his second scoop and score touchdown of the season. SFA had six turnovers that included three interceptions and three fumbles.
-SFA's secondary accumulated five pass break ups and three interceptions. Charles Demmings, Jarvis Anderson, and Marje Smith all recorded interceptions.
