Alex Rodgers wasted no time putting runs on the board for the Lumberjacks as he blasted a solo home run on the very first pitch of the game, starting off an offensive day to remember for Rodgers. The hot bats didn't stop there as a single from Tom Biggs drove in Clayton Loranger, who also reached base from a single after Rodgers' home run.
The Lumberjacks dropped the hammer in the top of the second by scoring five runs in the inning. Loranger took advantage of a bases loaded situation and drove in two with a single through the left side. A wild pitch by the Texans later in the inning led to another run for the Lumberjacks. With the bases loaded once again, it was Cole Hill's turn to join the fun as a two-run single gave SFA a 7-0 lead after two innings.
Conner Woods gave the Lumberjacks their second consecutive quality start and picked up his first win of the season by going six innings, allowing only two runs and one extra-base hit. Woods had held Tarleton to two hits in the first three innings, but the Texans was finally able to string some hits together in the fourth inning as a lead-off double and two singles put two runs on the board.
The Lumberjack offense quickly responded to the Texans' bats by loading up the bases with no outs. Nolan Brown came through by hitting a RBI single and keeping the bases loaded. Rodgers stayed hot at the plate by driving a double down the left field line to bring in two more runs. Loranger followed by bringing in one more run from a sacrifice fly. After the Lumberjacks second big inning of the day, the 'Jacks led 11-2 through five.
Following two scoreless innings, Tarleton was finally able to get the bats going. With four hits and six batters reaching base, the Texans were able to manage a five-run inning and bring their deficit down to four.
Caleb Rutledge came in shut down those Tarleton bats in the ninth inning by going three-up, three down and striking out two to close out the series with the Texans.
The dynamic duo of Rodgers and Loranger struck once again this afternoon as each recorded both two runs and three RBIs. Rodgers being a triple short of the cycle today. Biggs and Hill both had a productive day at the plate, collecting multiple hits and at least one RBI each.
The Lumberjacks return home for a quick one-game match with Northwestern State on Tuesday, April 11th. Catch all the action at Jaycees Field on ESPN+
