
Lumberjacks Axe Aggies at Home 75-72

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks defeated the Mew Mexico State Aggies 75-72 tonight in a non-conference game at William R. Johnson Coliseum. The Lumberjacks improve to 6-5 overall and the Aggies fall to 5-8 on the year.
SFA got the chance to showcase their offense first. After two offensive rebounds the 'Jacks took a 1-0 lead, as junior forward Clayton Southwick went 1-for-2 at the free throw line. Latrell Jossell found AJ Cajuste for SFA's first three-pointer of the night. With 17:00 left in the first half SFA held a 6-5 lead.
Both offenses struggled early trying to find a rhythm through the first five minutes of the ball game as both the Jacks' and Aggies shot under 30 percent% from the fields. The Lumberjacks swarming defense held the Aggies to an early 1-for-10 shooting from the field.
The Aggies offense started to click and after the first 10 minutes of play, SFA trailed 15-13. Myles Jenkins gave the 'Jacks a 17-15 lead with 8:46 left in the first half, capped off by his three-point play. Junior forward Nana Antwi-Boasiako's free throws capped off a 15-2 run by SFA. With 2:00 to play in the half, SFA held a 28-19 lead over the Aggies.
Nana Antwi-Boasiako and Frank Staine hit back-to-back three-pointers to give SFA a 34-22 lead entering the half. The 'Jacks held the Aggies to 26.7 percent shooting from the field and outrebounded New Mexico State, 26-17.
Forward Juhlawnei Stone cashed in from the free throw line to finish his own three-point play. His three points extended the 'Jacks lead to 43-28 with 15:54 left in the second half. With 10:00 left in the game SFA led 53-42.
Latrell Jossell went 3-for-4 from the free throw line following New Mexico State being charge with two technical fouls. With 8:28 remaining in the game, SFA led 58-49. With under four minutes to play New Mexico State trailed SFA 70-67.
Nana cashed in on a three-point play at the line following his made dunk. His dunk gave SFA a 74-69 lead with two minutes to play. Frank Staine put the game on ice with his game sealing steal.
SFA took the victory over New Mexico State 75-72 and improved to 6-5 overall. Nana Antwi-Boasiako was named Pilgrim's Player of the Game as he posted a double-double with season highs in points, 18, and 10 rebounds.
Latrell Jossell (15), AJ Cajuste (11), and Juhlawnei Stone (11) also posted double digit scoring performances for the Lumberjacks. SFA outrebounded the Aggies 43-31, including a 18-7 offensive rebounding margin. As one of the top teams in the NCAA in bench scoring, the Lumberjacks totaled 40 points from seven players off the bench tonight.
