SFA dominates wire-to-wire, sets new single season program record for three-pointers made

HOUSTON, Texas – Stephen F. Austin men's basketball bounced back in a big way on Saturday afternoon in Houston as the Jacks used a strong first half and a record-setting afternoon with the three-ball to take care of Houston Christian 77-56 in Southland Conference action and in the process grabbed a share of the regular season title with a chance to win it outright on Monday night in San Antonio. The win improves SFA to 26-4 overall and to 19-2 in league play.

It was all Lumberjacks from the jump as SFA shot 56% from the floor in the opening twenty minutes, knocking down four three-point shots and finishing the half at +11 in rebounding. The Jacks committed seven first-half turnovers but turned HCU over eight times and held the Huskies to a 24% shooting clip in the first half as the host bucketed just six attempts from the floor to head into the intermission with only 16 points.

Jerald Colonel grabbed ten first-half rebounds, while nine of the ten Jacks that touched the floor before the break found the scoring column with Keon Thompson leading with 11 points and Lateef Patrick following with ten.

HCU opened the second half on a 6-0 run but only managed to get as close as 18 points of the SFA lead down the stretch. The Jacks grabbed nine offensive rebounds in the second half and committed just two turnovers in the final twenty, while turning over the host ten times in the half.

SFA wins a share of the regular season SLC title with an opportunity to win the crown outright on Monday night in San Antonio
It is the first regular season SLC title for the Jacks since a 19-1 finish in the 2019-20 season
The Jacks win for the 26^th time this season; tied for the tenth-most wins in a single season in program history
The victory gives the Jacks the regular season sweep of the Huskies after SFA picked up an 85-67 victory in Nacogdoches on January 10
It is SFA's 18th win over HCU all-time and a fifth against the Huskies on the road

It is the 11th win on the road this season; the most since winning a dozen in 2019-20
The Jacks surpassed the previous program standard of 269 three-pointers made in a season which was set in 34 games during the 2015-16 campaign
Seven Jacks have accounted for the 270 made three pointers this season with six of those players making a three in Saturday's win
Kam Burton, Marcus Scurry, Narit Chotikavanic, Ahamed Mohammad, Thompson and Patrick all sank threes in the victory with two each from Patrick and Chotikavanic
SFA shot 49.2% from the floor, the seventh game this season at 49% or better
The Jacks shot 78.6% (11-of-14) from the stripe
Ten Lumberjacks scored in the win and all ten played 14+ minutes
Thompson finished with 17 points and added three assists and two rebounds
Patrick followed with 13 points, four rebounds and an assist
Marcus Scurry added ten points with a rebound and an assist
Chotikavanic scored eight points and followed Colonel's 11 rebounds with six
Gediminas Alisas scored eight points to go along with three rebounds
