Longtime Lone Star State foes meet on the hardwood for second-straight season; special ticket package available now for action-packed weekend
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – For the second-straight season, Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State are set to clash on the hardwood as a Battle of the Piney Woods exhibition will take center stage inside William R. Johnson Coliseum on Friday, October 23. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the matchup is part of an action-packed weekend in Nacogdoches.
SFA Athletics is offering a special ticket package for the weekend. For just $24, fans will receive tickets to the men's basketball exhibition vs. Sam Houston, SFA volleyball's SLC matchup with Northwestern State (10/24, 12 p.m.) and Lumberjack football's homecoming tilt with Southeastern Louisiana (10/24, 5 p.m.). The ticket deal is LIVE and can be purchased HERE.
The Jacks won the unofficial matchup last fall in Houston, chopping down SHSU in overtime after a late Bearkats' rally in intermission forced the extra session. Keon Thompson dropped 40.
The contest marks the beginning of season two of the Matt Braeuer era, and while the late October matchup won't officially count, the two sides have played in many that have. SFA leads the all-time series against the Bearkats 108-91 in a series that was first contested in 1925. The two programs last met on the hardwood in a countable contest during the 2022-23 campaign.
