
Ladyjacks Begin WAC Title Defense Against Wildcats

OREM, Utah. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks Volleyball team travels to Utah for the WAC Tournament and draw a first-round matchup with the ACU Wildcats.
Ladyjacks at a Glance:
Stephen F. Austin enters the WAC Tournament with no shortage of confidence as they concluded their regular season with a commanding 3-1 win over the CBU Lancers. The win over the Lancers on Saturday saw SFA go a perfect 16-0 in conference play, end the season on a 16-game win streak, and finish the season with a dominant 27-3 overall record. In the game against CBU, SFA led in points (60-50), hitting percentage (.270 -.205), aces (9-4), and blocks (13-4). The Ladyjacks 16-game win streak ties them for the eighth longest in the nation with both Florida Gulf Coast and Loyola Chiacgo.
The Ladyjacks used a balanced team effort to help secure a road win over CBU. Ielan Bradley and Camryn Hill powered the SFA offense as each finished with eight kills to lead the team. Ariana Pagan continues to show her versatility as she stuffed the stat sheet yet again for the Ladyjacks. Pagan finished with six kills, two aces, three blocks, and led the team in digs with 11. Jayden Flynn and Maddy Bourque continued to form a formidable duo for SFA as Flynn led the team with 15 assists and Bourque finished with 13. Defensively, Caroline Kahle recorded her first collegiate start at libero and performed exceptionally as she finished with 10 digs, second only to Pagan. Meanwhile, the SFA defense threw one more block party to end the season as freshman Kyanna Creecy dominated with a career-high nine blocks and recorded the most single-game blocks by any SFA player this season. Ielan Bradley tacked on another five while fellow freshman Tanishua Joseph finished with four as the 'Jacks finished with 13 blocks as a team.
The 'Jacks finish the regular season second in the entire nation in Team Total Blocks with 291, just one and a half blocks behind nation leader UC Santa Barbara. Ielan Bradley finishes her MVP-type season as the leader in kills for the 'Jacks with 371 and finishing second on the team in blocks with 98. Meanwhile, Jayden Flynn put up a whopping 650 assists this season and served up 36 aces to lead all Ladyjacks in those categories. Defensively, Haley Hoang was the steady defensive presence for SFA as she wraps up the season with 434 digs, while Izabella Ortiz caps off an impressive sophomore season in which she will finish with 132 regular-season blocks, good for 12th in the entire nation.

The Wildcats are coming off a 3-1 loss to Tarleton in their regular-season finale. In the match against Tarleton, Bryley Steinhilber finished with a double-double as she had 14 kills and 12 digs for ACU. Madeline Guffy dished out 37 assists and six aces to lead the 'Cats, while Sara Carrizales had 19 digs to top all ACU players. On the season, Ashli Edmiston led the Wildcats with 287 kills, while Madeline Guffy had an impressive 867 assists on the year and added a team-leading 42 aces on top of that. Defensively, Sara Carrizales led the way as she finished the season with 383 digs, while Breanna Box was the Wildcats defensive force at the net as she led the team with 58 blocks.
Series: This will be the 16th time ACU and SFA have met each other in volleyball. The Wildcats and Ladyjacks battled earlier this season, which saw the 'Jacks claim a 3-0 sweep over ACU at the Pressure Cooker. SFA has won the last seven matchups between these two schools.
