Ladyjacks Defeat Wildcats in First Round of WAC Tournament; Extend Win Streak to 17

OREM, Utah- Stephen F. Austin defeated Abilene Christian in the first round of the WAC Tournament 3-1. SFA advances to the semifinals of the WAC Tournament and extends their win streak to 17.
The first set was tightly contested as neither team held larger than a three-point lead until the 'Jacks went on a three-point run late in the set to take a 23-19 lead. ACU then went on a three-point run to cut the lead down to one, but SFA won the final two points of the set to take a 25-22 first set victory. Teams continued to trade points in the second set until ACU went on a seven-point spurt that gave them a 20-15 point lead. SFA fought back and cut the lead down to three, but ACU came out on top and won the second set 25-21. The early part of the third set was defined by scoring runs as each team went on several. SFA had a three-point run early on and then a five-point run to get a slim two-point lead and two separate three-point runs later in the set as they cruised to a 25-19 third set victory. The Ladyjacks turned up the heat in the fourth set as they jumped out to a 7-3 lead. ACU traded points with SFA for a majority of the set until the 'Jacks went on a five-point spurt to extend their lead to 22-12. Ielan Bradley recorded the match-winning kill to send the 'Jacks to the semifinals with a 25-15 fourth set victory.
SFA led ACU in points (72-63), aces (5-2), blocks (14-4), and hitting percentage (.258-.155). WAC Player of the Year Bradley led the 'Jacks offense with 17 kills followed by Tanishua Joseph who recorded 14. Jayden Flynn led the team with 26 assists followed by Maddy Bourque who recorded 22. Haley Hoang led SFA with 18 digs followed by Camryn Hill who recorded 14. Kyanna Creecy led the defense for the 'Jacks with eight, followed by Bradley with seven. Creecy has recorded 17 blocks in the past two matches.
SFA will play host Utah Valley in the semifinals on Friday, November 17th at 7:00 p.m. central time.
