ST. GEORGE, Utah- The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks Volleyball team begins the first of two road games in Utah with a matchup against the Utah Tech Trailblazers.
Ladyjacks at a Glance:
Stephen F. Austin travels to Utah carrying plenty of confidence fresh off another conference sweep and a perfect 4-0 record in a four-game home stand. The sweep of ACU on Saturday was the Ladyjacks seventh conference sweep of the season and extended their home win streak to 26 games. In the game against ACU, SFA led in points (54-38), aces (9-5), assists (33-27), kills (39-31), blocks (6-2), digs (45-38), and hitting percentage (.372-.168).
Tanishua Joseph may be a freshman, but she is making a name for herself quickly as she has been a vital piece to this Ladyjacks team especially offensively. Joseph and Ielan Bradley continue to form a high-powered duo for SFA offensively as each recorded nine kills against ACU to lead the team. Meanwhile, Jayden Flynn and Maddy Bourque continue to form their own potent duo for the Ladyjacks as Flynn recorded 18 assists and Bourque recorded 12 assists. With those 12 assists, Bourque has surpassed the 2,000-career assist milestone and is only the eighth Ladyjack in SFA history to achieve that milestone. Bourque also made her presence known as a server as she recorded four aces, which was a new season high. Defensively, Izabella Ortiz continues to be a stone wall for SFA as she led the team with four blocks and is up to 105 blocks on the season. Haley Hoang and Ariana Pagan helped tame the Wildcat offense on Saturday as Hoang recorded 15 digs and Pagan followed closely behind with 14. Overall, SFA sits third in the nation in Total Team Blocks with 213.
Despite dropping in the recent RPI ranking, SFA still ranks in the top 50 overall at no. 48 and rank above schools such as Clemson, Ohio State, UCLA, Rice, and USC. SFA enters this match on an eight-game win streak with a 19-3 overall record, an 8-0 conference record, and a 4-2 away record. SFA has swept seven of their first eight conference games played and will look to keep their momentum rolling and stay undefeated in conference play against the Trailblazers.
Trailblazers at a Glance:
The Utah Tech Trailblazers continue their current four-game home stand against SFA, coming off a commanding 3-0 sweep of Seattle on Saturday. In the match against Seattle, the Trailblazers led the Redhawks in points (54-38), kills (42-29), aces (7-4), assists (39-28), and digs (42-33). Kennedi Knudsen, Taela Laufiso, and Mya Laufiso have formed a well-rounded trio for the Trailblazers to lead them on offense.
