Three Ladyjacks Record Double-Digit Kills as SFA Remains Undefeated in WAC Play

ST. GEORGE, Utah- Stephen F. Austin defeated Utah Tech 3-1 Thursday night on their way to their 20th win of the season and their ninth consecutive conference win.
The first set was close as neither team had more than a three-point lead until the 'Jacks were able to win back-to-back points off of a ball handling error by Utah Tech and a successful setter dump by Jayden Flynn to take a 14-10 lead. SFA pulled away late in the first set with a five-point run to extend their lead to 23-15. The Ladyjacks were able to win the first set 25-19. The beginning of the second set was similar to the first until SFA went on a seven-point tear fueled by two kills from Camryn Hill to double up on the Trailblazers, 18-9. Utah Tech tried to mount a comeback as they won six of the final ten points, but SFA was able to hold them off ans secure a 25-19 second set victory. The back-and-forth trend continued into the third set as points were traded the entire set with SFA only able to hold serve five times in the set and Utah Tech held serve seven times. The third set went into extras where the teams continued to trade points until Utah Tech broke through at the end of the set scoring the final three points to push SFA to a fourth set for only the second time in conference play. The Ladyjacks jumped out to a 10-5 lead in the fourth set and showed no sign of slowing down in this set. SFA scored seven of the final ten points of the fourth set as they secured a convincing 25-14 fourth set victory to remain undefeated in WAC play.
SFA led Utah Tech in points (73-61), kills (64-52), aces (3-0), assists (59-51), digs (67-55), and hitting percentage (.247-.190). Ielan Bradley led the trio of Ladyjacks who recorded double-digit kills in this match with 17, followed by Tanishua Joseph who recorded 14 (a new career-high) and Izabella Ortiz who had 11 kills. Maddy Bourque tied her career-high with 31 assists followed by Flynn who recorded 22 assists and a season-high three kills. The blocking duo of Ortiz and Joseph accounted for three blocks in this match. Three Ladyjacks also recorded double-digit digs with Haley Hoang leading the way with 18 digs, followed by Hill with 13 and Ariana Pagan with 12.
The Ladyjacks continue their Utah road trip in Cedar City for a matchup with the Thunderbirds of Southern Utah at 12:30 p.m. central time on Saturday, October 21st.
