
SFA Topples Purdue and Drake at Day 2 of Purple & Gold Challenge

BATON ROUGE, La. – Stephen F. Austin rolled to a pair of wins on day two of the Purple & Gold Challenge.
SFA 7, Purdue 1
SFA defeated Purdue 2-0 Friday behind a no-hitter, and the two teams met again and the Ladyjacks cruised to 7-1 win.
Batting fourth in the lineup Gaby Garcia put the Ladyjacks on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI double in the gap between right and center field.
SFA extended its lead in the second inning.
The Ladyjacks loaded the bases and Camryn Middlebrook drew a walk to push across a run. Hope Lusk then doubled to right field to clear the bases and SFA led 5-0.
Sydnee Hebert and Lusk each added RBI singles in the fourth inning and the Ladyjacks opened up a 7-0 lead.
Kassidy Wilbur, who threw the no-hitter in the first game between the two programs, tossed a complete game for the second time. Wilbur scattered four hits, allowed one run and no walks and fanned six batters.
Alex DuBose batted 2-for-3, while Mikaelah Burkland and Madison Nguyen each collected a hit.
SFA 3, Drake 2
The Ladyjacks won in walk-off fashion in game two. Dubose singled to center field in the bottom of the seventh to score Garcia.
SFA entered the bottom half of the inning trailing 2-1, and Garcia delivered an RBI single to left field to score Middlebrook and tie the game at 2-2.
Brooke Gainous threw a complete game and scattered three hits, allowed two runs (one earned) and walked two and struck out four.
The Ladyjacks close out the tournament Sunday versus host LSU. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
