MONTREAL, Canada – Stephen F. Austin men's basketball travels to the Montreal Northern Classic for three marque basketball games to be played in three days.
SFA opens the MNC versus Quinnipiac on Friday at 1 p.m. CT, plays Middle Tennessee State Saturday at 3:30 p.m. CT, and closes out competition Sunday versus UNC Greensboro at 9 a.m. It's the first time in program history the 'Jacks will play QU and UNCG. SFA and MTSU met the first-time last season, which was an 87-74 Lumberjack win in Nacogdoches.
Early Statistics
Through four games the 'Jacks use a balanced offensive attack.
Sadaidriene Hall averages a team-high 15.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.
Latrell Jossell, one of the leaders of the backcourt, averages 12.0 ppg, and is shooting 46.7 percent (7-for-15) from beyond the arc.
Nana Antwi-Boasiako is averaging 10.8 ppg, 5.8 rpg, and leads the team with six blocks.
Jaylin Jackson-Posey, who was named the WAC 6th Man of the Year in 2021-22, has adjusted well to playing in the starting rotation. The combo guard/forward is averaging 10.3 ppg and is converting .552 percent (16-for-29) of his shot attempts.
Keller and company utilize the "PressU" mentality to put other teams in compromising positions.
The 'Jacks have forced an average of 22.75 turnovers per game, which ranks third in the country and atop the conference standings. SFA is one of the top offensive rebounding teams in the country with an average of 15.0 offensive boards per game, which ranks 13th nationally and third in the WAC.
SFA defeats South Dakota State in Mid-Major Clash
Nigel Hawkins came off the bench and dropped a career-high 25 points and SFA defeated SDSU 93-82.
SFA used its "PressU" mentality and forced SDSU into 20 turnovers, which the Lumberjacks turned into 28 points.
Led by Hawkins, the 'Jacks used a proficient offensive attack in the first half and shot 64.3 percent (18-for-28) from the field. Hawkins scored 14 of his 25 points in the opening stanza on 6-for-9 shooting from the floor.
Hawkins added 11 points in the second half, but this time found his way to the free-throw line and went 8-for-10.
Hall scored 14 points and went a perfect 6-for-6 at the charity stripe.
Jossell and Jackson-Posey each scored 12 points and AJ Cajuste added nine points.
As a team, the 'Jacks shot 56.4 percent (31-for-55) from the field, including 5-for-11 from 3-point range.
SFA scored 53 points off the bench, 36 points in the paint, and grabbed 33 rebounds.

'Jacks Preseason No. 3 in Coaches and Media Polls
The Lumberjacks were voted to finish third in the both the WAC Pre-Season Coaches' Poll and the WAC Preseason Media Poll.
In the coaches' poll, SFA finished with 111 votes and are 16 points behind second-place New Mexico State, and 10 points ahead of fourth-ranked Abilene Christian. In the media poll, the 'Jacks are slated between NM State, and ACU.

Duo Named to All-WAC Preseason Team
Sophomores Sadaidriene Hall and Jaylin Jackson-Posey were selected to the All-WAC Preseason Second Team, as voted by the coaches. Jackson-Posey was additionally named to the All-WAC Preseason Media Team.
Jackson-Posey had a standout 2021-22 freshman campaign.
The Midland, Texas native appeared in 31 games on the season, starting in seven of those matchups and averaged 22.1 minutes, 7.5 points, and 2.5 rebounds per game. Jackson-Posey recorded 67 assists, 41 steals, and 25 blocks throughout the year, being ranked in the top three on the team in each of those categories. Additionally, he scored double digits in eight games.
Hall played a significant role for the 'Jacks last season.
Hall in all 32 games on the season, starting in three of those matches and averaged 19.7 minutes, 9.4 points, and 5.3 rebounds per game. A key player on the court, he had the second -best field goal percentage (.578) on the team with a minimum of 100 attempts, third most points scored in the season (300), third most rebounds (170), third most steals (39), and second most blocks (27). The Sulphur Springs, Texas native Scored double digits in 14 games including a 28-point double-double performance against Wiley, and15 points on the board in the senior night matchup against Abilene Christian, which included a game winning jump shot as the clock hit zero.
