The SFA soccer team defeated the Sam Houston Bearkats 2-0 in the conference opener in Nacogdoches on Friday. Teia Haynes opened the scoring just moments after coming off the bench in the first half with a one-time finish into the top left corner off a beautiful ball from Jamie Jezierski. Mattie Musser put away her second penalty of the season in the second half to double the 'Jacks lead.
The 'Jacks outshot the Bearkats 21-7 (9-3), including a 13-1 margin in the second half. Kamryn Jiles and Jezierski each called the keeper into action twice.
Madeline Talbot (3-5-1) picked up her third win and second clean sheet of the season. She was only tested twice but came up big when needed to keep the 'Kats off of the scoreboard.
The 'Jacks will be back in action on Thursday, September 30th in Beaumont as they take on Lamar at 7:00 p.m.
