NACOGDOCHES, Texas --
The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks split today's doubleheader with New Orleans, edging the Privateers 5-4 in Game 1, as UNO took Game 2, 8-4. The 'Jacks move to 3-12 in the 2021 campaign, 1-6 in Southland Conference play.
In Game 1, SFA hopped on the board first from a RBI sac fly from Skylar Black to charge in Cameron Crawford (BB, stole 2nd base) to take a 1-0 lead in the first inning. After a scoreless second inning, the Privateers went ahead 2-1 from a 2 RBI single from Gaige Howard to give UNO its first glimpse of offensive momentum. The fifth inning was impactful for the two teams, as it was one of two innings where both teams put at least one run on the board. UNO's Beau Bratton homered to center field to extend the lead to 3-1, but SFA scored three runs on three hits in the bottom half of the fifth to grab the lead once again, 4-3. SFA's Cal Campbell contributed a homerun himself to bring in Kade Clemens (BB), and a RBI single from Crawford brought in Sean Moore (2B) to give their team the lead heading into the sixth.
Another homerun from Howard tied the ballgame up at 4-4 to make the game interesting in the final innings, but a single from Bryan Burgos scored Clayton Loranger (1B), which was the game clinching run for the Lumberjacks. The Privateers stranded two runners on base in the seventh, allowing SFA to win it, 5-4.
Due to technical difficulties with the stat program in Game 2, there are no statistics at this time. SFA fell in Game 2, 8-4.
The Lumberjacks will be back in action on Friday, March 26th at McNeese to begin a four-game conference series.
