NACOGDOCHES, Texas --
The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (4-12) split its home opening conference series with the New Orleans Privateers (11-9) last weekend, with each team grabbing two wins to add to their win columns. Senior RHP Joseph Sgambelluri was awarded the start in the series-clinching matchup (4.0 IP, 4 Hits, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 SO), with Harrison Lee (2-3) inking his second win of the season, allowing only one hit, no runs and two strikeouts. Both teams combined for 13 hits on the day, but SFA's five hits (to UNO's eight) was all about when the hits took place. The Lumberjacks grabbed a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second to set the tone, never trailing in this game to win it, 5-3.
Cameron Crawford doubled to left field in the bottom of the second to clear the bases for three teammates (Moore, Burgos, Minjares) to give the 'Jacks an exciting 3-0 start Sunday afternoon. The intensity was matched by UNO in the third inning, though, from Gaige Howard's 2RBI single bringing in two Privateers to close the SFA lead to 3-2. UNO's Pearce Howard scored the game-tying run in the fifth from a sacrifice fly out to left field to keep themselves in the contest, but Cal Martin was able to reach base on a third base error for Skylar Black and Crawford to bring in two more runs to wrap up the Lumberjack offense.
SFA will be back in action this weekend at McNeese for a four-game series with the Cowboys.
