Ladyjack Softball Places Five on Southland Preseason All-Conference Squads

Southland Preseason All-Conference Teams release
FRISCO, Texas -- The Southland Conference released its annual Preseason All-Conference Teams on Thursday morning ahead of the spring 2021 schedule. The Ladyjack softball program was well represented on the league's preseason teams, tying for the lead with five total honorees.
Headlining the Ladyjack contingent as an automatic selection due to her status as an All-Conference selection from a year ago is Kassidy Wilbur on the First Team. The Bridge City, Texas native compiled a 7-2 record and a 1.32 ERA last season while ranking second in the conference to teammate Ashley Kriesel in strikeouts with 81.
A returning Preseason All-Conference selection at second base, senior Bryana Novegil earns Second Team honors on the heels of a season in which she hit .256 with ten runs batted in and 24 hits. She also posted a .949 fielding percentage and recorded 25 putouts and 12 assists in the shortened season.
Making their first appearances as Preseason All-Conference selections are Alex Hedspeth at shortstop, Bailey Richards at catcher and Shaylon Govan at first base. Hedspeth led the 'Jacks in batting average (.412), runs (23), HBP (13) and hits (28) last season, while ranking second in runs batted in behind Govan. In her first season as a Ladyjack, Govan posted team-high totals in RBI (26), doubles (9), home runs (6) and slugging percentage (.828). Richards makes her first All-Conference Teams appearance after batting .378 in 16 games last spring and posting a .993 fielding percentage with 147 putouts.
The Southland Conference Preseason Coaches Poll will be released on Friday, February 5, at which time the Ladyjacks will know their projected finish for the 2021 season as picked by the league's SIDs and head coaches.
