
SFA Track and Field Owns Lead After Opening Day of SLC Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM, AL -- The SFA Track and Field teams opened up the 2021 Southland Conference Indoor Championship in strong fashion, as both squads lead the field after the opening day of competition. The Lumberjacks lead the men's side with 41 total points, while the Ladyjacks lead all women's programs with 34 points.
Of the 12 finals events on Sunday, Stephen F. Austin accounted for two first-place finishers, with Asani Hylton taking home gold in the men's high jump and the women's Distance Medley Relay team of Briana Nolen, Annie King, LaSean Davis and Kelsey Ramirez earned the top spot on the podium with a time of 11:53.87.
In addition to the two champions for SFA, podium finishes were earned by the following SFA athletes on the opening day of competition.
2nd - Kelsey Ramirez (5000M) - 16:48.42
2nd - Riley Floerke (Pole Vault) - 3.86M
2nd - Branson Ellis (Pole Vault) - 5.30M
3rd - Carter Scott (Pole Vault) - 4.95M

5th - Chad Horstmann (Pole Vault)
7th - Christiana Mudd (Pentathlon)

Day two gets underway Monday morning at 10 a.m. CT, with the 60m hurdles portion of the heptathlon event.
