The Lumberjacks will have a first-round bye in the WAC tournament following a first-place clinching 4-0 win over Chicago State on Friday. The win bumps the 'Jacks to 8-0 in conference play with 24 points.
Carly Wyatt found the back of the net for the second consecutive game in the 29th minute off a ball from Maria Garcia to give the 'Jacks the lead. Briana Beaty and Jayme Bailey both scored off of assists from Jamie Jezierski and Caylon McMillan respectively, before Lucy Meadows netted for the first time as a Lumberjack.
For the second time this season, the Lumberjacks racked up over 20 shots against Chicago State. The final shot count was 24-4 (11-2) in favor of the visitors.
Madeline Talbot and the SFA backline have been in top form and have still only allowed three goals in the eight conference games so far. The clean sheet was Talbot's sixth of the year and third in a row as she improves to 10-5-1 with a goals-against average in conference play just 0.38. Paige Kanipes, Mattie Musser, Carli Arthurs, Jamie Jezierski, and the whole Lumberjack squad also deserve credit for their incredible defensive play throughout the season.
The 'Jacks remain on the road for the final two games of the regular season against Abilene Christian and Sam Houston. Kickoff in Abilene is 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
